I think he meant a wet bed as some of us call it, almost like a transparent sealer that is applied before or during base coat application for blending high/coarse metallic colours.

Sealer is great in a production setting where time is money, its great for new parts and excellent hold out on half ass bodywork for some guys.
Im no expert when it comes to widebodykits but my suggestion would be Method 2, only I would use short strand fiberglass after using the fiberglass and matt and before as little body filler as possible. get a good scratch into the metal for good adhesion. Method 1 seems like someone is overthinking it to me. I cant see the quarter moving around too much unless the vehicle has structural issues or is involved in a collision.

X2 on the Matrix AG 40. It holds a good gloss and doesn’t chip or scratch as easy as other economy clears iv used. Another cheap clear that is decent is PPG Shopline’s “HS” version JC 7200.

I have done Code RR a few times in Aquabase (same paint as Enviro) Honestly 2 coats of ground coat and I had coverage, 2.5 coats of midcoat for the Ford fiestas and the F-Series I did took 5 coats of mid coat, IMO I don’t think that is out of the ordinary. I have heard a few guys complain about RR but honestly it was a great match for us and I know that all the PPG shops around my area are not having any issues but I am on the east coast of Canada.
2.5 coats is the normal for 90% of the metallic colours I am seeing and 2 for solids. Sure there are a few codes that may take an extra coat but what system doesn’t? My advice to you would be to contact your local rep and get him to drop by and help you iron out any issues.
