I have to say what I dislike about no mix the most is their frequent use of xirallics in mixes where normally not used by other brands and their off balanced price on those pearls. Punch in the code for that funky yellow tristage used on the new fords and have a look at how much the midcoat is…. its about $400 a quart!!!

I’ll PM u the reps name and number for valspar cuz I have no idea who has it in your area.. you will really like it compared to no-mix… i’m shocked how well it is performng for my customers. And its very econimical by comparison.

I can send you the rep’s contact info if you like.. I would go valspar over matrix if possible. matrix is going to spray dry just like transtar. I didn’t really like matrix when I sprayed it. As a store owner I pay a LOT of attention to what is being said about different lines by various shops. I had a GTA wanda jobber in my store yesterday visiting and he said valspar kicked his @ss when it came to town.

Here is a close up of the fender on the one. I made an etched effect in the tribal using a paint pen then dusting waterborne silver over it until it almost dissappeared.

took me forever to draw in the pattern all over the bike.

Hey Glen, I’ve been screwing around with the Valspar LVB solvent base system for two weeks now… my shops all are raving about it. The pricing is good, the color match is amazing and its really nice to spray. Non of my shops are asking for transtar anymore, and I’m also starting to steal matrix customers now too.

You should see if you can get a demo of it. Might be a good move for you in light of your having trouble with the transtar for matches and dry-spray.

The system has a very comprehensive variant box, and I have checked every mix we have made so far and they all are perfect matches. The only thing is you WILL want to follow the software and use a colored ground coat whenever it tells you to.. I’m sure Andy will back me up on this, as its the same formulations with Debeer.

my plan right now is to take apart an ecomix and figure out what pins the 7500 uses then start wiring it in various configurations until I get it right.
    😀

yes actually, after a lot of screwing around. I run sartorious scales only, and I have about 14 or so that are a mix of the PMA7500 and PMA7501 models. I initially was trying to interface to the 7500 as that’s the scale the store has been using for 6 years as a primary scale, but out of frustration tried the 7501 which didn’t get me much further ahead. So I thought about a shop we deal with that had a working setup that PPG installed, so I asked to borrow the cable they used. What I found was the cable has a flip internally in the wiring (pin two goes to pin 3 and vise versa). This cable got the 7501 working like a charm, so I made a cable for us to match.

Problem I have now is I need to figure out the pma7500 scales… they still won’t communicate using that cable. I have a lot more of the 7500 series scales than I do the 7501 and I will be damned if I’m going to spend $1500 a unit to switch them all. So thats what I am working on now, when I can find free time. LOL

I need to figure it out asap, since I will be starting to install into the shops soon.

well, we went LVB and debeer 900+. the LVB solvent is really catching everyones attention. I think it may trump Transtar No-mix!. color match is really good so far and its pretty inexpensive! (we haven’t done many mixes yet and still waiting on feedback from some of our customers). The problem with transtar is their xiralics are very expensive, and they use them heavily in their formulas for some reason (where other brands do not use at all). So sometimes we end up with quart mixes that are $300 or so.

I already have a shop asking us to install the solvent compliant in his shop. the 900+ seems good, but again haven’t done too many mixes yet to get a firm opinion on it. The silver I mentioned earlier we diagnosed as the painter spraying too lightly. He was not spraying wet coats at first to get coverage.. he was spraying all his coats like they where a drop coat.

I have been comparing all mixes to the variant deck as they are made, and every one matches well, whether it be solvent or waterborne.

All in all, I’m impressed with the system, I LOVE the software, and I see a very promising future with Valspar and Debeer.

Well we are up and running with Debeer 900+ and valspar LVB. The color tools are awesome, and ICRIS is a very very nice system.

I made 5 colors with the LVB solvent base and compared each to the variant chips… All five where a bang on match. sprayed first 900+ job today with GM bright silver on an O2 camaro. Customer spraying it said he had trouble burying primer, but I am suspecting his “9” coats were way to light to be considered a “coat”. I’m having a hell of a time getting the sartorious scales we use to connect to a PC, but I’ll be on the phone with the techs in the morning to try to iron that one out.

Andy, in your experience can you maybe offer any insight as to why the silver today gave my guy trouble?

Your in the gta no? I know a few jobbers up there I can refer you to that will gladly put in a waterborne system. I would avoid prospray, as its missing the color tools and support. I can give you the #s for the tech reps for ppg up that way too if u like.

Water can be sprayed in a garage no problem! And I’m actually about to do that in about an hour!lol

Find out what the other system is before you commit to switching. There isn’t much out there in LV solvent that will be any better than transtar. Omni, value-pro,prospray,atx,nason, and dimensions all suck too for color match. Tell your boss to demo some waterborne, and get you into a training course on it

I’m about to dive into valspar’s LV system, I will let you know how it goes, but I’m not expecting anything miraculous. I haven’t found that any of the waterborne systems are bad, they just all have their minor pros and cons.

check out the compuspot 160 from AMH.. the energized slidehammer is amazingly fast.

I installed one in a large shop a few months ago and the stud gun hasn’t been out of the tool box since. The shop says the dent pulling time has been cut to 1/4 of the time. also the star on the end of the slide hammer is good for a few hundred welds, and they cost $1 or so to replace.

on your T8 silver, try adding a bit of yellow to kill the blue…. it wont take much so go easy.

    January 26, 2013 at 7:52 am #40629

fun stuff….. I’ve had many of those issues to deal with in the transtar line over the years. When that happens I usually revert to some old school base that I keep a stash of for emergencies, or if the customer will allow me, I send over some H20. See if your supplier can/will make you a shot of waterborne to put on the car, it will probably match fine and you can move on….

couldn’t you just clear them to coat the plastic, then scuff the clear and make a tri-stage like midcoat using a trace black or even regular black tinter and binder in the water system he has then re-clear them????

I dont think the ones rbl makes are that much, i thought they where only about $10-15…
