a popular one around here is five star speed clear (2.1voc). its really fast and nice gloss, also polishes nice. Not sure who makes it.. I have been told it might be montana. I really liked it though, but you can only do one or two panels with it because its so fast.

any of you guys ever use the RBL version of these? they have a little marker pen for cut thru’s and wipes for bigger jobs…

I had sales guys pushing them on me to stock in my store… the markers seemed kinda cool cuz you could keep it in your pocket…

haven’t got any yet though… not sure if they would be popular or not.

well I spoke with valspar today and looks like my systems are shipping out today or tomorrow and I’ll be mixing by friday. Can’t wait to get it out there and get all my guys spraying it.

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes….

bet my house…. not be my house! LOL

well yes it does, because if they are not exempt in europe, then they are contributors to the posted voc rating, and I would be my house they are in the clears in discussion.

so if you calculate it to canadian/california rule, you can exempt them which lowers the voc per pound, possibly to 2.1.

they must have known they had a problem because the ones I have don’t look like that.

    see below.

    cool…. thank you!!!

I will have to ask valspar what the N-america numbers are on that product when you factor oxsol and acetone into the equation.

i’m gonna email him right now as a matter of fact!!! LOL

I think 420 is the metric equiv of 2.1 lbs/gall. i’m trying to confirm that though… I guess I will have to run out to the shop and read a can to verify it.

Clears are a major complaint that I have to deal with here all the time. A lot of time its the painter that is the root of the problem, but I still strive to find the best clears that can perform well in a variety of environments. dieback and pop are huge issues in the summer months.

Most of the time I find the painters are pounding the product on in rapid invervals trying to achieve flow, which leads to solvent trap and eventually pop. Or they are using their 20 yr old devilbiss gun that their grandfather swore by and refuse to upgrade to a more efficient and advanced gun.

As a store owner, the paint companies push us to sell the whole paint package, not just their color. The problem I have with this is some of the generics simply outperform the “good stuff”.

so I’m hoping that debeer has a nice product, because it would be refreshing to have a solid paint system from start to finish.

all the shops had a mixed bag of tricks… 3m, evercoat, proform, transtar, etc.

Fusor hasn’t had a jobber that carries the full line in our area in years, so I decided to do so.

I think the gun might be different now.. the ones I have have a cylinder that threads on with large coarse threads at one end that are brass. its super easy to open it and refill it, but you have to remember to NEVER let it run out of product or it will be ruined. (its very tough to clean out the passage ways)

I can upload a picture of the gun I have if you like.

I just hosted a big fusor promo program that we installed complete fusor kits into 30 shops. part of the program was 2 hours of ICAR training for the products with focus on the sealers. I had the guys from fusor come up and we did a bunch of demos on the different patterns that can be done.

the one I thought was neat was using the semi-flow sealer (forget the #) on an old windshield. we made a 3/4″ ribbon on the glass using tape to make an even edge. using a spreader we flattened it out to 1/8″ thick by 3/4″ wide, peeled the tape back and let it set up. once it set (10-15 mins) we lifted one end and pulled it off the glass making a nice ribbon that replicated the wide seam found in some import wheel wells… then we just glued it up in there with more of the same sealer and made an OEM looking repair.

the other demo we did was playing with fusor’s sprayable seam sealer gun. by throttling the air we could make spirals, spatter or slightly rippled effects, which the guys thought was really cool.

    yes…

I have the nexa solvent to prospray solvent conversion chart if anyone wants it.

in waterborne they are not the same… nexa and enviro are the same, one product two labels from PPG

prospray water had better color match a few years ago, now they are playing with formulas trying to make the solvent and water spray the same color for each variant.

what i find is most waterborne colors work better in the lighter variant. they now have a note in the software on what is the “old” standard color in waterborne, so just default to that as a first attempt at color match.

Andy are you spraying DB 2.1voc clear over there? if so how is it? does it pop easy in the hot humid weather?

I currently sell a lot of SPI, which my guys all love and I can’t keep it on the shelf. as well as UPOL clear. But if I’m going to switch all the shops to debeer, I should probably push the whole package deal.

Also since your in Europe, I wonder if we will experience the same color matching here on north American cars. I guess as long as they have the variants we should be ok regardless.

Is their variant chip box very complete? IE does it have a chip for each variant or just some. Prospray, which we currently sell, developed the navigator box which is all fine and dandy, except for the fact that it only has chips for one or two of the variants listed and the rest have nothing. a lot of the time there is a reference chip for the standard formula only, and all the variants are without a reference #… what a fantastic box….

LOL… its a good way to get a feel for what to expect once you find the right product, but I can’t say i would do it all the time since the quality of the solvent will be a lot poorer than that of a urethane grade product. look in industrial/fleet paint lines for such a demon since those products don’t fall under auto refinish and higher voc levels are compliant. IE Limco LR12
