lol, thanks again everyone! The $3,000 in materials was pretty funny. Actually that is exactly what I did was prime the Blazer today. Turned out pretty good. Rust is a pain! I ground down both rocker panels to bare metal as they both had surface rust almost the entire length. I can tell whoever owned this thing just drove it. It also had hit a deer at one time and cracked the grill. My brother came over to check out the bodywork and was very impressed. So much so that he now wants to buy a grill for it. Thanks again everyone! I really appreciate your time! Jack

Thanks Kennelly. Ding I was actually wondering about that myself. Here’s my dilema, it’s supposed to be real nice out tomorrow, then rain and be in the 60s Wednesday. I may have to spray it in the garage rather than in the driveway. I prefer painting outside rather than in the garage if possible. Just seems like I always miss something when I do it all in the garage. Nothing like natural lighting! Thanks again!

I don’t really have ” customers” as I just do it as a hobby on my own stuff and for friends and relatives. Thanks for the info. The duct tape on the shirt first sounds like a good idea.

Thanks all, I really appreciate all the advice!! I have a 99 Ford Ranger that had a pretty badly rusted out tailgate that I recently fixed. Being that I didn’t have a welder and it wasn’t rusted out completely I decided to use fiberglass. I had never used fiberglass until then. I was surprised at how well it worked. Just kind of messy. Also kind of a pain trying to work with the wet fiberglass cloth, but it did a nice job! Being that Ford Ranger tailgates are known to rust out, I couldn’t find a junkyard one at all! I must say the bodywork I did on it turned out pretty nice. Now I just need more experience painting! Well, gotta go! Gonna work some overtime to possibly pay for my new welder! lol Thanks again! :rock Jack

Thanks Bondo (Jack) You have to remember I don’t know much. Why would you not even bother with a gasless mig? Thanks as always! Jack :rock

Thanks! It seems like I never have enough light in my garage when doing bodywork! If it’s nice out I prefer to do it in the driveway. Seems like the very few times I did all the bodywork inside the garage it showed when I pulled out in to the sunlight!

You guys wet sand with a DA sander? like with 600 grit? I always thought everyone wet sanded by hand? Although, I have never worked in a production shop.

Thanks! I think I just moved the gun too slow! ie. too heavy a coat. I believe I once read that you should move the paint gun like a foot a sec.? That sound about right? Thanks again! Jack

Thanks! It was the base coat actually. Does metallic tend to look dryer when first applied? Because it seems like it looks pretty dry when it first is applied, then after a minute it looks as though it tends to look the way it should. I get nervous painting as I usually have so much time involved in my bodywork!I love painting and need experience but as you all know materials are expensive! Probably the best paint job I ever did was on a race car! lol I wasn’t nervous because it really didn’t matter how well it turned out! It almost looked professional! It was just a single stage acrylic enamel. Any advice is always appreciated as always!!!!!!! Thanks! Jack
