does it actually matter if its applied all at once? i mean were talking about maximum build applied on the panel. it shouldn’t matter if its applied in stages or it one session. at the end of the day what ever way you apply it, the same 5-6 coats is on the panel.

the founder of house of kolor jon kosmoski made a video a while back using his products, after 6 coats of kandy, 3 coats of clear was applied, sanded it all back and then applied 3 more coats of clear.

that dvd from jon is proof that you can do a paint job with 5+ coats of clear and not run into problems.

ive been doing just custom work for a while now and ive never ran into any problems like die back, chipping or peeling.

The reason for 5 coats is that the colour was urithane kandy. Not your average collision work. The customer wanted the vehicle back earlier than planned so there was no time for sanding back, re masking, and flo coating.
So 5 coats was applied, 2 days later it was buffed and given back to the customer.
Also the difference between 2 coats and 5 coats of clear is unbelievable. So much more depth.

I will drop the pressure down to 28psi and spray closer to the panel and i will see how that goes.

my devilbiss gti pro or my iwata supernova will use half the amount of clear as my sata 4000 but the sata sprays so much better.

i just want to know why it uses so much material.

i shot solid in it before, 3 doors, 2.5L and just got coverage. didnt have enough colour to finish off the vehicle.

So what is he doesnt have the skill to be clearing.

His gotta learn somehow. Thats the whole point of this forum. To share and learn our knowledge and experiences within oneanother.

We were all like paintbreaker at somepoint so lets help him out.

Normal temprature when spraying i set it to 26 degrees clecius. When the burner failer, the temprature when as low as 16 degrees celcius.

    thank you for your replies
Andy T, i will find out the type of debeer clear it is as well as the hardener and reducer.

Ben, when the booth is working fine, most of the times i do get ok results, when i dont get runs or sags the overall finish comes out with a little bit too much orange peel i dint know why.

this week i am trying out my iwata supernova with a different clear (protec). Dont know if you guys heard of this clear before.

i will let you know how i go with it.

I think you are right. Looks like it would be good for resporators.
By water trap do u mean a sudden drop in the piping with a tap at the end?

    RatStang:
Ive came up with a set up let me know what you think.

    http://www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/product.php?currency=USD&tid=105&products_id=2607

The link above is my regulator BEFORE the sharpe desiccant filter i posted a link of recently, then another one of the devilbiss filter/regulator in the booth to regulate the pressure and add extra filtration.

NOTE: all piping will be copper.

Let me know what you think

thank you for all your help and suggestions.

by having all these water traps and desiccant filters, does this reduce the overall pressure and air flow you have to spray?

thank you for your help guys,

    RatStang;

thank you for clearing up on the information on air filtration. that was the information that i needed as i am not to familiar on this topic.

the filter i am looking for is to ONLY spray in booth. thats it. not for breathing.

    Ben

thanks for your reply, as i just wrote to RatStang, the filter is just for spraying in 1 booth only, no prep bays or air fed masks.

the compressor i have is a twin piston type, not sure on tank volume but the motor itself is rated at 620 litres per minute. giving that the gun i use is an Iwata supernova that consumes max 350 litres per minute.
please correct me if i am wrong but i think that my compressor is enough for my needs.

As Ryanbrown said the type of hardener depends on the type of job.
ie. slow hardener for full resprays or fast hardener for single panels etc…

speaking of cross draft booths, how are they for spraying a full car? are they just as good as a down draft?
