I think thats great.

I couldn’t ride any motorized anything until I could start them by myself. Glad to see him using that pull cord. We don’t get snow here in Wisconsin anymore. I think the trails by me were only open 3 days this year…..global warming is just a myth……

:agree I just mix stuff off the rack and I have most of the Vibrance toners that Ben mentioned but these can get very expensive…. no doubt, One 4oz bottle of VM4102 Emberglo Pearl cost $885

Believe it or not HOK is fairly inexpensive compared to PPG Vibrance line, it all depends on the color and effect you are looking for.

I own ND and Hutchins DA’s Im also looking to get newer sanders as mine are 10+ years old only had to replace the bearing head on the ND once only because it had be dropped. I to have been looking at the Dynabrade and the 3M just don’t know yet which one I want…..

I use the ND one just purely for fast material removal only as it is a hog and will strip a panel in no time

the hutchins is my final sander has a nice balanced feel to it I could run it with one finger on the paddle. but its outdated like others mentioned and I would like to get a nicer one for clearcoat sanding.

I figure I will have to buy atleast two sanders.
if you want to learn because you think you might like doing this, thats great. but if you want to do it just to save $1000 it aint gonna happen
:agree This is not a job you will get right the first time. no matter how much practice. Until you spray the whole thing. that is how you gain the experience to build on.

I guess you could just use a paint roller and some tractor paint , can have your car painted for under 100.00 (just a tip use a foam roller)

I would get in touch with a dupont jobber and see what information they can give you to start with

What tools do you have now?
do you have a space to paint this car?

if you have all the tools already

and all materials like sandpaper, tape , masking paper , cleaners and you just need to buy the paint then you will be close to 300-500 for just paint and clearcoat

If you go to a local paint supply store maybe one that sells PPG Omni/shopline paint and just ask what for some prices to get an Idea. it can be any paint supplier does not have to be PPG can be Dupont , heck Kirker , Summit racing , all kinds of paint out there should be able to find some thing in your price range

1 gallon of primer
hardener for primer
depending on size of car may need 1 gallon of basecoat (if its a solid color look at a single stage paint then no need for the clear coat ) you said it was black but didn’t say if it had any pearl or metallic in it
1 gallon Reducer for basecoat
1 gallon of clear coat
hardener for clear coat
1 gallon of Wax and grease remover , 1 gallon of acetone for clean up of tools You probrably could get away with just a quart of these items

It sounds like you are off to a good start after a while of hand sanding you will wish you bought a DA.

Well I hope your sister is ok (you bought her a respirator atleast I hope)

lil tidbit on the what you call a clear base – DBC500 is not

DMD649 is the clear base and is used in the base formulas

DBC500 is used as an intercoat clear and a clear carrier for tricoat finishes / Blender.

I’m mean you are correct about the DBC500 I just dont want you to forget about DMD649.

video was good. great job Nex.

I would call and auto glass place to come to your house and have the glass removed its cheap insurance and when you need to have them put back in do the same and call the glass folks I have worked on early 70’s mopars but its been 10-15 years ago, I cant remember how the chrome comes off but you can buy restoration books that will show how to remove and repair most of the car. Also the net has a wealth of free material

You need to get yourself a parts book on this. Being a welder helps when doing work like that because you know if the metal is to weak for repair and should be replaced and you can make your own patches for most of it. I would buy some new parts(not all) and weld them in. Would be cheaper and stronger in the long run unless you want practice and say you did it all by hand. I got to hand it to ya tho I don’t think I could do a job like that. but good luck hope to see it get finished. :pcorn:
the mixing system I am using has the option to mix paints RTS (ready to spray) so over or under reducing shouldn’t be an issue.
Enlighten me and please explain this.

nevermind they told me already

I guess if the painters use this option then it should not be an issue I am a PPG user so forgive my ignorance on Sikkens
