I like hvlp’s better for basecoat most times. There are some exceptions. The lower air cap pressure helps when blending as it will not throw paint as far down a blend panel, making it a bit easier to control. The lower pressure at the tip also helps with placing the metallics where needed without blowing them everywhere. With that said all guns have knobs and a compliant gun can be adjusted to compensate for this if needed, it just might take a bit more time to fine tune.
Hey Ryan out of curiosity which hvlp gun do you use for base coat yourself?
i have the older 900i version not the LVLP so mine likes about 36 psi ,the LVLP runs a fair bit lower and is more of a basecoat set up ,i would sugest around 29 psi as a starting point
Hey Paul did you end up getting the new model ? I’m thinking about getting one because of the great price and how much you praise optima in general 😉
Looking for a walcom ego mini hvlp gun. i priced them here in ireland and they want €165. i’m just interested to see if i can get it any cheaper in the uk. i found them a while back on another irish site for €90 + vat but they seem to have closed down in the last month, the website isn’t working anymore! :S
I would try eBay, I have bought many guns from walcom USA on eBay, and they have the mini ego.
i found them at sprayguns direct £199 plus VAT
Yeah that’s were I seen them myself, i did ask the question and this is what I received from spray guns direct:
> Yes as we discussed Nordson are a partner of Befrag a German gun
> manufacturer who sell their guns in Germany under the Optima name
>
> The trilogy range have some features unique to this product
>
> Interestingly in Germany we have sold many of these guns to date even though
> the Optima gun is fully available there
>
> I think you will also find the Optima range price is much lees attractive
> then the Trilogy guns offeredWe
the only seller i know of is ESKRA UK ,im sure an email to Bersch and Fratscher would deliver some results ,when i got my Optima it was actualy a rebrand for Rupes and i know they are also sold as WIWA guns
Hey Paul have you used the latest optima trifity at all? I noticed what looks like the new optima being sold in the UK under the name Nordson trilogy is that the same gun? Looks identical to me but different name, can get them at good prices. :pcorn:
Xchaser, someone on another forum using that user name was talking about how much they liked a CA Technologies Techline gun that they had —-was that you? –Do you still have a good opinion of that gun? I was thinking about buying one—-Thanks
G’day there smisco yeah that probably was me as I have owned the c.a technologies techline crp in the past. For the price you pay those guns are very nice quality considering they have the same nozzle needle and air cap as there more expensive model. Apparently I was told that the same setup was used in there automatics at Lexus factory. I would defenatly recommend this gun for the price. 😉
I have the sata 3000powerjet 1.4. I’ve used it for 6years. Sadly they are discontinued, since 4000 release.
I actually just got myself a brand new satajet 3000 RP in anodised blue from the UK. If u want to get one go to spray guns direct website they are available. I use mine just for clear great gun! 😉
Kind of depends on what brand of paint you use, could be anywhere from a 1.3-1.5.They don’t atomize as well as an rp but for base thats what you want especially for blending.I would say a 1.4 would work very well with anything.
I’m currently using Standox solvent base coat.
